Air Traffic at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport
January - March 2011



The former Williams Air Force Base is now known as Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. In addition to serving as a civil airport, it is frequently visited by military aircraft taking advantage of its limited traffic. Several pilot training schools operate at the airport. Allegiant Air provides passenger service to airports around the country on a fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-83s. Boeing has a test facility for hot weather tests and Advanced Training Systems Incorporated refurbushes Douglas A-4 Skyhawks.

It was initially assigned to Wardair but not taken up. It was delivered to Pol/Midway as N156PL on December 21, 1989. Midway re-registered it as N903ML in March 1990. It was withdrawn from use by Midway on November 14, 1991. Pol/Air Aruba registered it as P4-MDA on March 14, 1992 and re-registered it as N11FQ on October 14, 1992. It was delivered to Southeast Airlines on September 28, 2001. Air Efatta registered it as PK-FTT on Juloy 12, 2005. US Bank registered it as N11FQ on December 13, 2006. Midwest Airlines leased it as M82ME on July 31, 2007. Allegiant Air leased it as N412NV on February 27, 2009.

Finnair retired it on October 30, 1993. Nordic Air subleased it as SE-RFB on January 19, 2005 on merged with Norwegian Air Shuttle on April 12, 2008. It entered service with Allegiant Air as N408NV on November 10, 2008.

Allegiant Air registered it as N866GA on January 20, 2005. It was converted to an MD-83 in 2005.

Spanair leased it again on June 3, 1992. Nordic East International leased it on November 29, 1992 and returned it to SAS on October 31, 1994. SAS re-registered it as LN-ROR on December 13, 1999 and then as SE-DFT on December 16, 2009. Allegiant Air registered it as N429NV on March 15, 2010 and converted it to an MD-83 on December 16, 2010.

Iceland Express leased it on June 25, 2005 and returned it to JetX on February 25, 2006. It returned to SAS service as LN-RMD on December 10, 2007. SAS re-registered it as SE-DIO on January 15,2008 and then as LN-RMD on December 10, 2008. Allegiant Air registered it as N416NV on February 19, 2010 and converted it to an MD-83 on June 23, 2010.
